Interesting geographical artwork in the forest

Südkurier from May 11th, 2023: "The geographical center of the Bodenseekreis is now adorned with a steel landmark. The approximately 20-meter-long sculpture in the shape of the district's silhouette is located around 500 meters below the Gehrenberg Tower in Markdorf's district, according to a press release from the district office. The sculpture was officially presented to the citizens of the Bodenseekreis by District Administrator Lothar Wölfle as a gift on the occasion of the district's 50th anniversary. The costs, around 135,000 euros, are borne by the cultural funding of the Upper Swabian Electricity Works Association (OEW). Markdorf made the installation and design of the square possible and supported it. The sculpture is walkable and is located directly on the anniversary trail on the Markdorf - Heiligenberg stage. 23 individually crumpled steel bollards mark the municipalities of the district and invite you to linger as seating. Shapes and sizes arose by chance in the forging process and now offer space for personal interpretations, as District Administrator Wölfle noted with a smile at the inauguration. The center of the miniature district made of metal and gravel is marked by an eight-meter-high steel needle with a bright red head. It pierces the ground at 47 degrees 43 minutes 53.5 seconds north latitude and 9 degrees 24 minutes 18.9 seconds east longitude, exactly the defined center of the district.
