Not worth doing by mountain bike at the moment. It's very overgrown in places, and there are a few tree trunks across the path.

A section of the Rennsteig southeast of Ludwigsstadt is called the Schönwappenweg. The oldest boundary stone on the path is the Kurfürstenstein, a coat of arms stone from 1513. It has stood for almost five hundred years on this border, which today separates Thuringia from Bavaria, but once separated the Bishopric of Bamberg from the Electorate of Saxony. During the GDR era, it separated the inner-German border.
