Especially at the junction of the ponds – where the water surface tapers and the reeds line the path like a natural curtain on both sides – you almost feel like you're stepping into a painting. And then there's that moment when, between two branches, the view opens onto the water, calm, dark, mysterious. A stage for reflections, for plays of light, for thoughts that go deeper than usual.

Hidden in the heart of the Dorche Valley lies the Große Kahntopp, an idyllic pond surrounded by forest and rolling meadows. The place invites you to linger while you watch the reflections of the trees in the water and listen to the gentle sounds of the forest. For a rest, the rustic barbecue area with its massive granite stones offers a welcome opportunity to take a break or even enjoy a small barbecue with friends. Perfect for hikers who value peace and quiet and being close to nature.

The circular path through the Dorchetal offers a wonderful insight into the untouched nature of this quiet region. A landscape stretches along the stream that has small hidden highlights. On a leisurely stroll you will come across old trees, gentle meadows and occasionally an idyllic picnic area right by the water. The path invites you to enjoy the peace and quiet and let your gaze wander over the peaceful valley. The lovingly maintained benches and shelters, which blend harmoniously into nature, always offer opportunities for short breaks. Here you can let the silence and the rippling of the water take effect. Ideal for anyone who wants to escape everyday life for a moment and experience nature without the hustle and bustle. In addition to nature, you can also stop at the Schwerzkower Mühle to try regional specialties.

The mouth of the Neisse into the Oder is a special sight: this is where two important rivers meet, forming the natural border between Germany and Poland. Surrounded by the vast floodplain landscape, this place seems quiet and secluded, ideal for a moment of peace. The transition from the smaller Neisse into the mighty Oder lets you feel the power and constancy of nature. At the same time, the landscape tells of the history of the region, in which these rivers played a central role as border and trade routes. Today, the mouth is an interesting stop for cyclists on the Oder-Neisse cycle path, which runs through the beautiful and historic region.

To properly see the confluence of the Neisse and Oder, you have to follow the Oder on foot for about 300 meters from the gauge house (somewhat rough terrain).
