The Buchstein rocks are a protected natural monument and a geotope located near Bayreuth. This striking rock formation consists of sandstone from the so-called Bayreuth Formation (Rhaetian-Lias or lowest Lias). The rocks, reaching up to 10 meters in height, exhibit particularly beautiful cross-bedding, honeycomb weathering, and limonite crystallization. A popular hiking destination, the rocks are characterized by their location in the middle of a forest and constantly offer new perspectives due to weathering processes. A historic water reservoir dating from 1893 is also located nearby.

At the intersection, there are three trails: to the right, the very difficult rock slalom, in the middle, the difficult downhill, and to the left, along the hill, the chicken line back to the main trail. The downhill has two options: a roughly waist-high root drop, or a technical detour. Due to the high risk of falling, I recommend protective gear—or pushing.
