The cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) is an extinct species of bear from the last cold period (around 120,000 to 10,000 BC) The cave bear's habitat was Europe, from northern Spain and the Pyrenees to the Urals and Black Sea and from southern England to Macedonia. Its head and torso length was up to 3.5 m, and its shoulder height was around 1.70 m. It was therefore significantly larger than today's brown bear. As with today's bear species, female cave bears were slightly smaller than males. The weight of a male cave bear is estimated at 600 to 1200 kg. This meant that male cave bears were heavier than a bison or a Cape buffalo.

The St. Sebastian's spring is located directly at the foot of the pilgrimage church. The spring has been said to have miraculous healing powers since 1672. An attached stone tablet tells the story of the recovery of the watchman's wife. https://www.ostbayern-tourismus.de/instrumente/st.-sebastians-quelle-8989ac51e3

The church was built in 1386 and consecrated in 1401. It is located in the countryside on a rock and is a landmark of the town of Breitenbrunn. It has an octagonal central building and two towers with onion domes. During the Second World War, the tower of the church was hit three times by tank shells and riddled with holes, each additional hit would have caused the church to collapse. After the war it was rebuilt in 1946. The church has a baroque high altar and elaborately designed side altars. https://www.ostbayern-tourismus.de/instrumente/wallfahrtskirche-st.-sebastian-6f87e0fecc

The Sebastian spring is located on the eastern outskirts of Breitenbrunn, below the rock on which the baroque pilgrimage church of St. Sebastian stands. The spring is enclosed in a walk-in house. The outflowing brook is used in a dammed basin for treading water and flows after about 180 m into the Bachhaupter Laber. The spring water is said to have healing powers, as it is believed to have been the cause of the sudden recovery of the fatally ill watchman's wife in 1672. After the second healing of a foot ailment in 1691, she had the spring house built in honor of Saint Sebastian. Many pilgrims still drink the water from the Sebastiansquelle, believing it protects them from diseases. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastiansquelle

The pilgrimage church of St. Sebastian sits picturesquely atop a rock overlooking Breitenbrunn, radiating a special tranquility and grandeur. Its octagonal central structure with its distinctive onion domes makes it not only an architectural gem but also a unique landmark of the town. Upon entering, one immediately senses the spiritual depth that this place has exuded for centuries. The Baroque high altar and the artfully designed side altars invite contemplation and reflection – a place where history, faith, and art come together in harmonious unity.
