Great area with lots of animals and plants. Nature is mostly left to itself. The paths can also suddenly end if they are overgrown or blocked by fallen trees.

"Real" surfing or surfing is actually only known on the sea. But often simple things are enough to make something special out of what is already there. And so there are also surfing opportunities away from the sea, namely on rivers. River surfing or river surfing becomes more and more well-known and popular. A well-known spot for river surfers is the Eisbach in Munich. River surfing is a trend sport that can be implemented with little effort. The principle behind it is simple: a standing wave is created on the surface of a flowing body of water when the water overflows an obstacle. This can be a rock or a step in the riverbed. The difference to surfing on the sea: In river surfing, the water flows under the surfer, so to speak, he stands on the spot. In the sea, on the other hand, the wave pushes the surfer from behind You enter the river surfing from the side and off you go: no strenuous paddling out, no waiting for the perfect wave , no dependence on tides or weather. A standing wave is so interesting for beginners and surfing pros because – unlike a wave in the sea – it is available all year round under almost the same conditions. Here the Isar flows into the Danube - the only still intact mouth of an Alpine river into the Danube. Part of the important floodplain and oxbow lake is designated as a nature reserve and is both a breeding area for numerous rare birds and a habitat for many endangered plant species. The starting point for guided tours through this unique floodplain landscape is the Isar Estuary Infohaus. Text source: District Office Deggendorf

The Untere Isar natural area - a jewel in Bavaria Despite the enormous human intervention in the natural area of the Lower Isar, this area is to be classified as extremely valuable. The riparian forests of the Lower Isar between Gottfrieding and Plattling are among the largest and last contiguous riparian forests in Bavaria. Due to their peculiarity, they have been reported to the EU by the government of Lower Bavaria as a bird protection area (special protected area) and FFH area (flora-fauna-habitat area). Thus, the Lower Isar near Piel Weichs is part of the European Natura 2000 network of biotopes. In the area between Ettling and Plattling there are a wide variety of valuable habitats, such as natural nutrient-rich lakes, aquatic and reed vegetation and siltation zones, species-rich wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, softwood and hardwood alluvial forest, as well as ravine and mixed sloping forests. These biotope types are home to rare species of flora and fauna that enjoy international protection. The protected animals of the area include the beaver, the bluethroat, the middle woodpecker, the narrow diaper snail, the dormouse, the brook mussel, the natural fish species (mud whip, schied, nerd, schrätzer, white-flossed gudgeon and female nerf) as well as the green wedge damsel.
