The steep slopes on the south and east sides of the Bogenberg, which rises prominently above the Danube plain, are Pleistocene (Würmian) Danube cut bank slopes. The plateau corresponds to the Upper Miocene peneplain. On the southern side, Winzerstein, the rock from which the Bogenberg is composed, is exposed in cliffs. This rock consists of diaphragritic blastomylonites, which occur along the fault zone of the Danube marginal fault. The texture shows pronounced fracturing and alteration of the rock components. The geotope has been awarded the quality seal "Bavaria's 100 Most Beautiful Geotopes" and is explained on-site with an information panel.
