Roundabout on the Fürstenweg. The Fürstenweg is an old gentlemen's path that leads from Schleusingen to Schönbrunn to the former hunting lodge. There is a lot to discover here. Great circular tours, viewpoints and lots of nature. The paths in the Hildburghausen city forest are well maintained and can also be passed with a trekking bike.

The roundabout is located directly on the Fürstenweg, which leads from Schleusingen to the former Schönbrunn hunting lodge. The roundabout is also the starting point for many beautiful tours, as there is a hiking car park. The paths in the Hildburghausen city forest are well maintained and easy to navigate.

The way up may be tedious (even more so when it's wet) but the view and the ruin itself are worth seeing!

Veste Heldburg - a trademark in the landscape. Nice to look at and located high on the hill above Heldburg.

Straufhain Castle is located on the Straufhain Mountain, which was formerly a volcano, near the village of Seidingstadt. Sounds a bit fluffy, but it actually exists. On the left on the route between Hildburghausen and Heldburg. Around 140 million years ago, a volcanic vent emptied the lava, which then became the said mountain and a little later the site of the castle mentioned. Today ruin, you climb it by walking through light broadleaf forest. Once at the top, there is also the reward: a wide panoramic view. For example to the Großer Gleichberg. And that was also a volcano. Honest!

On the way to Veste Heldburg in Thuringia, at some point along the way there is a linden tree split in half. In the "hollow" of this linden tree there is a sign with the following sentences: "Castle linden tree of Veste Heldburg - large-leaved summer linden. Hiker, linger! Read my story briefly here: In 1791, the then ducal court secretary Joh. Daniel Bechmann (1768-1826) from Heldburg planted me. That's why I was also called the Bechmann linden tree. Around 1960, lightning destroyed my beautiful crown and split the trunk. Duke George II of Saxe-Meiningen (1826-1914) and his wife, Baroness von Heldburg (1839-1923) often lingered in the shade of the sprawling branches when they resided here in the fortress in the summer months. You can find out more information in the exhibition room of Veste Heldburg. The Veste Heldburg e.V. support association is committed to preserving the linden tree for future generations. Donations are always accepted for urgently needed conservation measures.
