Border pass between Italy and Switzerland, once an important route for smuggling and partisan warfare in the area. On the Italian side, the trail is easily accessible by mountain bike, although gravel riding is also a challenge, especially along the last two kilometers from Giovo. The pass is located at an altitude of 2,000 meters, and just below is the refuge of the same name. A stunning setting, largely untouched by human activity.

Open from June to September, this very welcoming refuge is located a few meters below the pass of the same name. The last 2 km are very difficult for gravel bikes, with a very rough road. The final section becomes paved with large stones, with gradients always above 10°. Stunning view and a large selection of snacks for those arriving.

The summit can be reached quite quickly from the Capanna Albagno, and after arriving at the hut not too late and spending the night there, it is suitable for a short excursion, with a fantastic panoramic view of the snow-capped Alpine giants and central Ticino.

We visited the farm on our tour from Bellinzona to Valtellina. The fresh milk, homemade cheese and salami were delicious!

Alpe di Giumello, not far from the Italian-Swiss border, is located in the upper Morobbia Valley. Here there is a stable, a dairy, a cellar and some buildings used as accommodation for those who work there. An alpine pasture produces an exquisite DOP cheese, perfect for a refreshment at the end of the climb, which is very long: from Giubiasco it is in fact more than 18 kilometers at an average 7.5%, with some gravel sections and a final constantly over 11%.

From here, if you want to reach the top of the man you need to follow the detour. The path to the summit is on very steep, stony and unstable terrain. The canal is equipped with chains and iron steps. Better to wait until you are alone to prevent accidental falling stones or stones from injuring other people. In any case, the stretch is short and not too demanding, just pay attention.
