The Sempt arises near Ottenhofen from the confluence of the Anzinger Sempt and the shorter Forstinninger Sempt. It is heavily fed by groundwater from the gravel plain, so that it is relatively cool in summer, rarely exceeding 17 °C, but it does not freeze in winter.[4] The most important tributary is the Strogen, which flows into Moosburg. At Wörth the Schwillach flows into the Sempt. At Berglern, the Sempt passes under the Mittlere-Isar Canal and flows into it between the compensation pond and the Echinger reservoir.

Very idyllically situated lake. Worth a visit or at least a detour if you are driving in the region. Great beer garden with a view of the lake.
