Research history For decades, archaeologists from the University of Mainz and the Roman-Germanic Commission at Glauberg have been researching the settlement of Glauberg and its surroundings in Celtic times (Hallstatt period and early La Tène period).[2] From 2004 to 2010, these excavations were funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the priority program "Early centralization and urbanization processes" (DFG-SPP 1171). During an exploratory flight in 1986[3] or 1988, local historians recognized the traces of a huge burial mound in a grain field on the southern slope of Glauberg. Later, a second burial mound was discovered, which could be located by geophysical measurements. Both mounds were leveled and not visible from the ground. Between 1994 and 1997, the State Office for Monument Preservation Hesse, Wiesbaden, carried out excavations. The burial site was subsequently reconstructed and has been open to the public ever since. The richly furnished graves of three Celtic warriors from the 5th century BC attest to the high status of the deceased.
