The yellow clinker brick building has stood on the Mulde for over 100 years. The former “lace factory Birkigt & Co.” had been producing beautiful textiles since 1907 using English innovative machines, which were sold under the “Plauener Spitze” brand. After 1991, the machines stopped rattling. The ensemble served as a warehouse. After the flood in 2013, youth revived the dilapidated industrial complex. The committed project “Village of Youth” fills the halls with joy of life and strives for self-sustaining youth work that is independently organized by and with young people. A café opens during the summer months. There is a bicycle repair shop, raised beds and a skate park. The rooms are intended to be available for events, musicians and exhibitions.
