The Holmer Sandberge are located in the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein between the municipalities of Appen (Appen-Etz district), Holm and the town of Wedel. The Holmer Sandberge are former dunes on the edge of the former glacial valley of the Elbe. They are now forested and are characterized by a rich flora and fauna. The Holmer Sandberge are a landscape protection area and are included in the Natura 2000 network in accordance with the Habitats Directive and are also used for local recreation. The Buttermoor / Butterbargsmoor is the remainder of a former extensive raised bog on the edge of the Klövensteen in the area of the municipalities of Holm and the town of Wedel in the Pinneberg district. After rewetting, peat moss and other typical bog species spread again. Heath grows in somewhat drier areas. In order to preserve the open areas, they are grazed by sheep and goats and the trees are pushed back (the so-called "decussing"). Several paths cross the nature reserve and allow exciting insights into the moor landscape. With a little luck you can spot grass snakes and adders along the way. Cranes have been breeding in the moor since 2012. Information boards explain the special features of the area.

You can relax here in summer. Water lilies are blooming on the pond and the frogs are croaking. A pavilion stands on the edge and invites you to take a break. In winter the frozen pond is good for ice skating.

The Butterbargsmoor nature reserve is a habitat for rare plants and animals. A very beautiful moor with a lake. You can relax wonderfully here.

On one side of the way you can see the Holmer Sandberge, the largest inland dune area in Schleswig-Holstein, and on the other side a beautiful lake, which only turns out to be a fire-fighting pond on closer inspection. It's the perfect place for a little break. You will find cozy places everywhere to linger or for a small picnic.
