Here, the R7 Enns cycle path runs directly along the main road, with a few exceptions (tunnels), meaning you have to share the road with cars, motorbikes and buses. For me, however, on a beautiful Saturday, it was surprisingly pleasant 👌 Scenery: A dream!

Promau is located in the municipality of Hollenstein in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria. The pass connects Hollenstein in the northwest with Lassing in the east. Promau lies between the Göstlinger Mendlingtal and the Hollensteiner Hammerbachtal and Sandgraben. The valley train separates the Königsbergzug (1452 m) in the north from the Gamssteinzug (Hochkogel 1774 m) in the Ybbstal Pre-Alps. The route was an important transport route for iron ore pig iron in the early modern period. The Lower Austrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park documents the small iron industry with several systems. There are always old hammer mills with their distinctive chimneys along the route. The pass is not of great importance for cycling, but it is all the more scenic. The volume of traffic is almost zero, the road is narrow and leads through the valley in a wild and romantic way. From the top of the pass you have a nice view of the pre-Alps every now and then.

This tour can only be driven from Radmer TO Eisenerz. Driving from the "Radmerer Hals" in the direction of Radmer is prohibited!

This pass is a particularly beautiful place to pitch a tent and spend the night. It's quiet, you have fresh spring water nearby, to fill up the water supply or to cook with the camping stove. In the morning you can go to the Zeiritzkampel and be one of the first to enjoy the view from above. Very suitable as an intermediate camp on a 2-day hike from the Reichensteinhaus (Praebichl) to the Moedlinger Huette (Johnsbach).

Is the highest point at the transition from the Eisenerzer Ramsau to the Radmer, then a very steep descent to Radmer. The brakes have glowed!

Scenic, slightly wavy road. Traffic is also manageable. And if you have too many kilometers in your legs and can only move at a slow pace, you can enjoy the mountain giants even better.
