Very beautifully landscaped, well-kept, shady garden with many colorful blooming flowers and some beautiful sculptures

A stunning viewpoint with an ascent and descent for experienced hikers! Fantastic views over the Wachau Valley from a height of 712 meters.

The abbey's Baroque garden was designed by Franz Rosenstingl on the site of what was then a vineyard and orchard. The view from 1750 shows an independent complex built next to the monastery. It was not only perfectly adapted to the topographical conditions but also masterfully formed from the "paradisiacal garden concept" of its time. Serene openness and the harmony created by order, symmetry, and repetition characterize the terraced garden. A parchment painting depicting "Leopold II bringing Benedictines to Melk in 1089," the frescoed garden plan above the north exit of the garden pavilion, and the elements that have survived to the present day, such as the parterre, the terraces, the retaining walls, the ramps, the avenues, and the water basin on the third terrace, are testaments to the original design of the Baroque garden.

Ascent only for experienced climbers! Or rather, the descent. Getting up the via ferrata, secured with ladders and ropes, is manageable, but going down can be a bit tricky if you're not very experienced with climbing. The view, however, is breathtaking!

The abbey park has been revitalized and open to visitors since 2000. A beautiful garden complex complements the Melk Abbey building. The gardens were inspired by the Baroque and English landscape garden styles, and they continue to define the character of the abbey today.
