On the eastern shore of Lake Wörthersee, between the Lend Canal and Maiernigg, lies a very special piece of nature. The Lendspitz-Maiernigg nature reserve covers over 77 hectares and is home to rare birds, amphibians, and plants. If you enjoy walking or cycling, this is the place for you. According to the story, the Wörthersee Mandl appeared to the wildly revelers – one version of the story places the event on Christmas Eve – as a warning. But since they refused to convert, the Wörthersee Mandl opened a small barrel he had brought with him, from which endless, unstoppable masses of water flowed – creating today's Wörthersee and swallowing the then town.
