The Lünersee, an old mountain lake transformed into a reservoir by a dam, is one of the largest lakes in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. It is located in the municipality of Vandans. Its pumped-storage power plant, the Lünerseewerk, with an initial capacity of 225 MW, was for a long time the most powerful pumped-storage power plant in the world. The Lünersee was once a natural mountain lake. The construction of a dam in 1959 transformed it into a reservoir with a capacity of 78.3 million m3. When full, the lake is 139 m deep. The circular trail around the lake is largely family-friendly and easy to walk.

After the glaciers retreated, the Alvier stream dug itself into its own gravel and has thus formed the current gorge over the last 10,000 years. It offers extremely rare insights into the earth's recent history and, with its almost jungle-like tree population, is also considered one of the most scenic in the Alps.

At the entrance to the gorge there is a barrier that indicates whether it is open. There is also a mobile toilet here. From the bus stop in the center of Bürs it is only a few minutes walk to the entrance to the beautiful, impressive gorge.
