The Greifenstein fish ladder is an ecological structure on the Danube in Lower Austria that restores more space for natural fish migration. It was built as part of the ecological restoration of the Greifenstein Danube power plant and allows fish to overcome the sections of the river separated by the power plant. The structure consists of a long series of pools that gradually equalize the difference in elevation between the upstream and downstream water. This allows numerous fish species – including huchen, barbel, and nase – to migrate through the Danube again in a natural way. The fish ladder is located directly on the Danube Cycle Path and can be reached via a short detour. From there, visitors can gain an interesting insight into the connection between energy production and nature conservation; information panels explain its operation and the migrating fish species. The structure is considered a successful example of ecological river restoration on the Austrian Danube.

The LIFE+ Traisen project was one of the largest renaturation projects in Austria and was implemented between 2009 and 2019. The aim was to transform the previously straightened lower reaches of the Traisen into a near-natural floodplain landscape. This resulted in a new, meandering river course with diverse bank structures and wetlands over a length of around 9.4 kilometers. This created valuable habitats for numerous animal and plant species, including endangered species. The implementation required extensive earthworks, in which large quantities of gravel and sediment were moved to create still waters and shallow water zones. The cost of the project was around 30 million euros and was financed by various public and private partners.

The city is a paradise for cyclists, with well-developed paths leading through green oases and along the Danube. In Tulln, trees are the focus of a unique initiative that highlights their beauty, importance and ecological functions. On this section you will find signposted trees with exciting information. The garden city creates a harmonious interplay of sustainability, nature and culture. With its focus on trees as "living works of art" and its bike-friendliness, Tulln is an ideal place for nature lovers and cyclists. Good thing!

Interesting rock in very stony terrain, therefore less suitable for small children.

A very beautiful monument with an interesting history and a fountain worth seeing. The Nibelungen Monument in Tulln on the Danube commemorates the legendary arrival of Kriemhild in Tulln, as described in the Nibelungenlied. According to legend, Kriemhild met King Etzel here before marrying him. The monument consists of a striking bronze group showing Kriemhild and Etzel. Created by the sculptor Michail Nogin, it was unveiled in 2005 and is located near the banks of the Danube, not far from the boat dock. It is part of the tourist Nibelungen theme route, which runs through several places along the Danube. In the Nibelungenlied, a Middle High German heroic epic from the 13th century, Kriemhild travels east after the murder of her first husband Siegfried of Worms. In Tulln she meets King Etzel (Attila, ruler of the Huns), whom she later marries to complete her revenge on the Burgundians. This section of the saga underlines the historical influence of the Huns on Central European history.
