Unfortunately, the hut is no longer what it once was. Since spring 2025, there has been a large parking lot with a wind turbine construction site (signposts now only read "Büchereck (P)"). The idyllic setting is gone.

Via Landgasthof Drei Schneeballen in Hofstetten, partly steep 12% and 5km climb via Höhengasthof Biereck (585m above sea level) to the Heidburg Pass (520m above sea level). From Schloßhof, the small single-lane road is car-free!!!! 🚴😃🌲

As a racing cyclist, this ascent or the route via Hofstetten and the Biereck are clearly more attractive alternatives to the heavily trafficked federal road B294 via the Heidburg, in order to get as directly as possible from the central Kinzig valley into the Elz valley and thus drive towards Freiburg. If you come from the upper Kinzig valley, the distance to be covered on this route is the same as over the Heidburg. Not only do you get fewer cars and motorbikes for the additional vertical meters, the route is also much more attractive in terms of landscape.

Nice route, which is mostly in the forest when coming from Hornberg, but on the southern slope you are exposed to the sun if it shines.

The Heidburg pass is located exactly between Haslach and Elzach and is a direct connection between the Kinzig and the Elztal. The gradient is between 3% and a maximum of 6% (north approach from Haslach - Mühlenbach).

The Büchereck connects the Elz Valley with the Gutach Valley, both approaches have a double-digit gradient. The east ramp is the most difficult of the two, with more meters in height and a longer ascending part. 😬
