The Geiselstein is a 720 m high elevation in the Oberwald of the Vogelsberg Volcanic Region Geopark in Hesse. The summit of the geotope is 20 m higher than the surrounding area, which is covered in forest, so that the Geiselstein does not have a wide view, but it does offer exciting climbing to the summit. In its formation, the Geiselstein is similar to the Bilstein, in that the magma also escaped along a fracture zone and finally solidified into plates that are slightly inclined. The geology of the Geiselstein is characterized by dark gray to black, fine-grained basalt. The special thing about Geiselstein is that it has a high proportion of the mineral magnetite. This mineral is slightly magnetic, so the compass needle in this area points towards the Geiselstein.
