Luneplate – Nature Conservation Meets Sustainable Development With ERDF funding, one of the largest contiguous natural areas on the North Sea coast is being created on the Luneplate. The area combines ecological enhancement with climate-adapted land development – a showcase project for the environment and the future.

With support from the ERDF, the Luneplate area south of Bremerhaven was developed into a valuable natural and recreational area. Two projects promoted the sustainable use of the area: a care and management plan to preserve biodiversity and a nature experience concept that offers visitors undisturbed observation opportunities. The result is a place that both protects nature and promotes access to recreation. A great example of successful funding policy—and a real highlight on your komoot tour through the region.

There are many opportunities to relax and unwind. There are plenty of places to sit everywhere.

The Erikasee is located in an 8.6 hectare natural habitat that was extensively renovated in 2012 with EU funds. It is a small, urban recreation area with benches, hammocks, a moorland adventure trail and even a public barbecue area. Swimming is not permitted, however.

Good starting point for a hike/bike tour across the Luneplate. Up on the dike you have a good view of the Weser, the dike foreland and over to the port facilities of Blexen and Bremerhaven.
