A great place to take a break can be found at the Glissen gravel pit.

The large square at the Stolzenau harbor and jetty is officially called "Löschplatz" (fire site) (presumably because this is where cargo was once unloaded from ships on the Weser and/or transferred to road vehicles). Today, ships still dock here, but the site is currently used primarily for tourism, with cyclists, walkers, and day-trippers. No wonder, given the magnificent view of the Weser and the nearby Weser Bridge (currently, both the old and new bridges can be seen simultaneously). Several benches overlooking the Weser invite you to take a break. Part of the "Löschplatz" is used as an official parking space for RVs. The access to the neighboring campsite also leads through the "Löschplatz." Otherwise, the beautiful, large site is thankfully largely car-free.

Luccaburg Castle was an early medieval lowland castle near Loccum. The tower hill castle of the Counts of Lucca, dating from the 11th/12th century, is recognizable as a massive, round earthen mound. Parts of the 2 m wide circular wall are preserved. A Count Burchard of Lucca is mentioned in documents around 1113 and 1130. His daughter, Beatrice of Lucca, married Count Wilbrand of Hallermund, who thus became his successor and heir. In 1163, he donated the surrounding land to Cistercian monks for the establishment of Loccum Abbey. Luccaburg Castle can only be reached on foot or by bike. The view of the Große Aue is simply magnificent. Stop for a moment and enjoy.

For ships, not for mountain bikes.

Still closed in July 2025!!! It'll probably last until at least December 2025😔. Then the next cycling season will be over. Unbelievable.
