Lake Freiberg is located at 930 m above sea level. With a surface area of approximately 16 hectares, it is the largest high mountain lake in the Allgäu region. Lake Freiberg has no visible inflows or outflows; its periodically fluctuating water level is regulated by underground inflows and outflows. The lake was formed during the Ice Age, when the ice masses of the Stillach Glacier towered 700 to 800 m above its present location.

A picturesque spot on the banks of the Iller, which begins its course here. The source of the Iller is near Oberstdorf, where the three source rivers Trettach, Stillach and Weißach flow together and form the Iller. This spot is a popular destination for cycling tours and nature lovers, as it is idyllically embedded in the Allgäu landscape. The source of the Iller is north of Oberstdorf on the Iller cycle path. The Iller cycle path officially starts here and runs along the entire Iller. It is one of the most beautiful cycle routes in the Allgäu. It's worth it!

Magnificent waterfalls, especially after heavy rainfall. The sounds are very impressive.

From the Fellhorn, you have a fantastic 360-degree view. Actually, even better than from the Kanzelwand. Along the ridge path between the Kanzelwand and the Fellhorn, you can discover some truly stunning alpine flowers.

Boating and swimming in the mountain pool, the lake is very inviting.
