The ruins of Alt-Thierstein Castle are situated on a wooded ridge in the Laufental valley, near the border with the canton of Basel-Landschaft. This medieval castle was likely built in the 12th century by the Counts of Thierstein and served to control important trade routes. Today, remnants of the walls, the keep, and sections of the curtain wall are still visible. The site offers a beautiful view over the Laufental valley. The ruins are freely accessible and a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts.

Wonderful view in a very beautiful location. There are tables and buckets for a picnic. It has a special atmosphere if you go along with it. The board with explanations of the history is very clearly written.

Interesting ruin - if you are in the area, it is worth a visit.

Habsburg Castle is the cradle of the Habsburg dynasty. This is where it all began. Today, the castle is home to a great restaurant that takes up most of the castle's rooms. The complex is therefore open all year round and can be visited free of charge. However, you won't find an extensive museum or dozens of rooms here. Only the palace (tower) and the outdoor area, including the outer castle ruins, can be visited. A small shop at the sod fountain offers the opportunity to buy souvenirs, books and the like. You can even rent VR glasses that show the viewer virtually what the Habsburg once looked like. The view from up here is breathtaking, by the way. Autumn in particular has its colorful advantages. The castle can also be easily reached by car. There is a sufficiently large parking lot. Anyone who is out and about as a hiker or biker will get their money's worth in terms of the route.

I keep coming back here, simple castle but always worth a picture

Kasteln Castle is located on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by vineyards and forests in Oberflachs in the municipality of Schinznach. Today it serves as a school for normally gifted students with behavioral problems.
