Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake that straddles the border of California and Nevada. Sitting at 6,225 feet in elevation makes it the largest alpine lake in North America. It is a major tourist draw with its stunning beauty and world-class ski resorts.

Memorial Point Overlook is located between Incline Village and San Harbor and offers spectacular views over Lake Tahoe and its large granite formations. Memorial Point hosts a very short trail to the shore, where you will find information boards about the flora and fauna of the area.

The trail from Incline Village to Sand Harbor is a must for anyone visiting North Lake Tahoe. Aside from one hill as you leave/enter Incline Village, the trail is flat and follows along Tahoe's east shore with incredible views around every corner. Eventually you'll end up at the fantastic Sand Harbor State Park, where you can enjoy the sun, sand, and water before continuing on your ride.

Sand Harbor is one of the most popular destination around Lake Tahoe, and with good reason. The views are outstanding and the beaches are wide and sandy. The parking area generally fills up within an hour of opening during the summer, but if you can get here on foot you'll be allowed entry.

To reach Monkey Rock from here, leave Tunnel Creek Trail in the western direction and follow the signs. Once you are at the rock, you will be rewarded with one of the best views of Lake Tahoe. It is said, that the rock, looking like a monkey, got its facial features carved in by a local.

Sand Harbor owes its current existence to the wealthy recluse George Whittell Jr, who inherited a vast fortune in the early 20th century. The wealthy heir bought 40,000 acres (nearly the entire Nevada side of Tahoe) with plans to develop large casinos and resorts. However, as he grew older he became more paranoid and reclusive and none of his grand plans came to fruition. Eventually most of his Tahoe holdings became public lands and the East Shore, Sand Harbor included, remain much less developed than other areas around Tahoe.

No longer an insider tip, but still a beautiful and sandy beach awaits you at 'Chimney Beach'. It's named after a chimney of an old cabin and even though the cabin doesn't exist anymore, the chimney still remains at the beach.

At 10,335 feet, Relay Peak belongs to the highest summits in the Lake Tahoe Basin and is the highest point on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Compared to its surrounding peaks, Relay Peak is rather easy to reach but still offers amazing views of the surrounding area and Lake Tahoe.
