Photos do not capture the sparkling beauty of the Obsidian flows through this area. This culturally important rock was used to make arrowheads and for trade by the Native Americans living in the area; it is glassy in appearance and can be sharp to the touch. An excellent destination for those who love geology and history.

The lava flows and cones in this area feel otherworldly. Views of North and Middle Sister are an added bonus.

Cool shade, clear cold water and a delightful waterfall make this a perfect lunch point for the day.

With over 4500 varieties of roses, this enchanting garden is an oasis nestled along the Willamette River. It is home to the country's oldest and largest Black Tartarian cherry tree, planted in 1847. This place holds a special place in my heart, as I have spent many afternoons under that tree, and I highly recommend it as an ideal place to stop and enjoy a picnic or spend some time relaxing and taking in the beauty of this place.

The park is a haven for hikers, birders, and others who enjoy retreating to the tranquility of nature. Hendricks Park is Eugene's oldest city park. Its 80 acres includes a world-renowned rhododendron garden and a native plant garden. Laced with paths and the northern terminus of the 12-mile Ridgeline Trail, without leaving the city, visitors can walk among fir trees, ferns, and wildflowers such as trillium and irises, other ornamental plants.

At 286 feet high, Salt Creek Falls is the second highest single drop waterfall in Oregon. A short walk from the parking area leads to an observation deck with excellent views of the falls. There is also a short, steep trail to the base of the falls.

At over 120 feet high and 300 feet wide Sea Lion Caves is the largest sea cave in the USA. Aside from the hundreds of sea lions that call it home you'll also see plentiful sea birds and at the right time of year migrating whales. This makes a good stop for those riding the 101 to have a break and enjoy a true gem of the Oregon Coast.
