This stunning landscape east of Circle X Ranch is a paradise for mountain bikers, boasting chaparral-covered hills and magnificent oak woodlands. On the west side, the picturesque Etz Meloy Motorway (Backbone Trail) invites riders to enjoy the magnificence of this area's untouched scenery.

Right in the southwest corner of the Portuguese Bend Reserve just off the Pacific Coast Highway there is a trailhead junction and parking for the many reserve trails. This offers an alternative entrance into the reserve. You can reserve one day in advance and it is usually locked with a chain.

Just minutes from the city, The Puente Hills Preserve offers mountain bikers almost 4,000 acres of scenic trails to explore. Well-marked paths wind through native landscapes, presenting challenges for riders of every skill level.

At the junction of three trails off Palos Verdes Drive South, this trailhead provides mountain bikers the perfect portal to explore Palos Verdes Nature Preserve’s 1,400 acres of panoramic rolling hills and steep canyons. Choose your own adventure riding through coastal sage scrub and grasslands.

This is the Casa Viejo Trail that runs alongside the Kenter Fire Trail and both offer great riding. This section of singletrack is a ton of fun and comes with epic views too.

El Prieto Trail is a sweet singletrack with lots of switchbacks, stream crossings and rock gardens. Intermediate riders will love it.

At the southwest corner of the Portuguese Bend Reserve right off Pacific Coast Highway the trailhead at the junction of the three trails offers a great entrance into the Reserve hiking network. The parking here is reservable (at least one day in advance) and usually locked with a chain. Nearest open parking seem to be at Abalone Cove (paid) and St Peter's by the Sea church about a mile west on Hwy 1.
