Very worth seeing

The Großjenaer Blütengrund takes its name from the fruit tree blossoms that can be observed in spring. A large part of the area where the fruit trees grow or grew is a natural floodplain of the Saale and Unstrut rivers. The vineyards are located on the northern edge of the lowland. It is a striking ridge that begins with the so-called Klingerweinberg.

High above the wine-growing town of Freyburg rises the mighty Neuenburg Castle. Its builder, Ludwig the Springer, secured the Landgraves of Thuringia's claim to power over the eastern part of their lands with its foundation. Several famous names appear in the castle's history: In 1224/25, Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia lived here, and the ornately decorated double chapel was dedicated to her – a true gem of the Romanesque period.

Early on Sunday mornings, you can quietly ride your racing bike here. Later, when the weather is nice, it gets as crowded as the Autobahn.
