It dates back to the 14th century, although it is believed that there was an earlier temple on the same site.

Like the waters of the Parga River that also stop here to form its fluvial beach, coming from its source, there in the Sierra de Cova da Serpe, before continuing on its way until it meets another river, the Ladra.
