This pine dominates the landscape of the area. The largest Rodeno pine forests in the province of Teruel, many of them reforested and others naturalized, are located mainly in the southeastern foothills of the Albarracín Massif, where they grow in siliceous soils. The area of this mountain pine forest is estimated at 13,382 hectares and includes the municipalities of Bezas, Gea de Albarracín, Rubiales, Tormón, Torres de Albarracín, Saldón, Valdecuenca, and Albarracín. Resin In the Sierra de Albarracín, the use of resin or sap has been documented since the time of the Christian conquest (13th century) and was traditionally practiced by oil and resin collectors for centuries. However, the industrial exploitation of resin in the province of Teruel only began tentatively in the mid-19th century, gaining importance at the end of that century with the introduction of the Hugues resin extraction process and modern, more efficient distillation technologies, which improved the quality of the obtained products. Production gradually increased until it reached its peak in 1962. After that, it began to decline until the activity was abandoned in 1977 due to a combination of factors that made it unprofitable: international competition, rising labor costs, rural exodus, and reduced production in the pine forests of Teruel. Four decades later, in 2017, the ancient craft of resin collection was revived thanks to a resin collector from Bezas who is once again exploiting the pine forest.

This lagoon is surrounded by a leafy Rodeno pine, along with junipers, oaks, junipers and other natural elements. Its water level depends on snowmelt and rain, and together with the Bezas lagoon, it is one of the most important wetlands in the Sierra de Albarracín. If you are interested in taking a route, you can follow the Balsa botanical trail that will take you to Rubiales. Additionally, in Rubiales, you can connect with the GR 10, a long-distance trail that connects the Atlantic with the Mediterranean. I hope you enjoy this beautiful area! 😊

You get the best view if you walk towards it from the north.

Absolutely unexpected - a natural bridge takes you over the gorge. I have never seen anything like this before.

Most beautiful canyon in the area. Beware that the path is technical, it includes some easy rock climbing. Definitely wear good shoes. El Cuervo is a great starting point, but if in a hurry you can drive up to a parking close (path!) and gain 2 km.

At an altitude of 1,200 meters and surrounded by beautiful landscapes and trails, is the Rubiales Lagoon, or more popularly known as the Balsa del Pinar. An ideal place for lovers of nature and outdoor sports. Close to the wetland, we will find a little house where we can have a picnic and/or rest. A mandatory stop on the route to Montañas Vacías.
