The flysch in Zumaia were formed over a period of 100 million years. About 50 million years ago, these sediments were exposed during a collision between the Iberian and European tectonic plates.
This cliff of Sakoneta is linked to that of Mendata. The path follows the very edge of the cliffs and overlooks secluded coves, soft rock walls, cascading streams and one of the largest tidal flats in Europe.
