Simply one of the best places in all of northern Spain to practice any sport or simply enjoy the scenery.

The port of La Matanela is a mountain pass on the southern limit of the Pasiegas Mountains. It is located 17.4 km from Vega de Pas and 13 from the Escudo port, which is reached after crossing the Magdalena pass.2 It has an average slope of 3% from the town of San Pedro.

This is one of the best-known climbs in the province of Burgos, not only because it's always the star stage of the Vuelta a Burgos but also because it has appeared in key stages of the Vuelta a España, one of the three most important stage races in the world. A brutal eight-and-a-half-kilometer climb at an average gradient of over 9%.

It is one of the most beautiful valleys in the north of the province of Burgos and which separates it from Cantabria. An immense valley rises that is crowned by the mountain pass of Portillo de Lunada, with high mountains around it that exceed fifteen hundred meters.

The port of La Matanela represents the geographical limit between Cantabria and Burgos. Located at 971 meters above sea level, it offers beautiful views of both provinces.
