Desert located in the province of Almería, in the municipalities of Tabernas, Gádor, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Alboloduy and Gérgal. Since the 1960s, the desert has been the setting for film and advertising shoots.

Here is a slightly off the trail fountain where you can fill up again. Perfect and refreshing. It does sometimes dry up but was flowing well when I went past.

Sierra de Baza and Sierra de Los Filabres are part of a remote mountain range over 2.000m height in the province of Granada and Almería, and the most isolated area of Badlands. This mountain range was a historic crossroads of cultures, and its legacy includes remains of Roman aqueducts or Arab castles. At the highest point of the range lies the iconic Calar Alto Observatory (2.168m), easy recognizable from fara way. The range also includes one of the most iconic and spectacular mountain pass in the Iberian Peninsula, el Puerto de Velefique (1.820m), popular by the high number of hairpin in the South side. The South limit of Sierra de los Filabres reaches the village of Gérgal, considered the North gate of the Tabernas Desert.

La Tetica de Bacares is a 2,088-meter peak located in the Sierra de los Filabres, in the province of Almería, Spain, being one of the easternmost peaks of the Cordillera Penibética to exceed 2,000 meters above sea level. According to the Gazetteer-Statistical-Historical Dictionary of Spain and its Overseas possessions by Pascual Madoz, this enclave has also been known as the Cerro de Nímar. This summit played an important role in the geodetic connection between Europe and Africa, when in 1878, the engineer and general of the Army Carlos Ibáñez de Ibero had to spend two months at the summit to establish the geodesic connection with Algeria.
