Beautiful historic stone bridge set in such a tranquil location that your heart rate will drop by thirty beats per minute. Lovely picnic area and great for kids. Access by foot from nearby road a five minute walk away.

Arching across the River Bovey this medieval packhorse bridge offers a glimpse into Dartmoor's past. Most likely used to travel between Lustleigh and Haytor and Manaton, it is said to be one of Dartmoor's prettiest river crossings. Especially lovely in the summer with the forest in its green splendour.

This beautiful moss covered river crossing is a medieval packhorse bridge. It crosses the River Bovey and there are benches nearby where you can stop and watch the world go by. Some say it is the prettiest bridge in Dartmoor.

Beautiful bridge over River Bovey.

Hidden in the woods, this old stone packhorse bridge is definitely worth seeking out. It’s easy to admire from every angle and the River Bovey chortles along underneath. The arch is quite significant and the setting is most magical in summer, when the forest is at its greenest.

Seemingly rising out of nowhere, Blackingstone Rock is a behemoth, isolated granite tor. It lies just off the road and is well worth locking your bike up at the bottom and scaling the rock for its outstanding views. While you could pop on your climbing shoes and scale the rock face itself, the easier route is via the Victorian stairs that are laid into the side.

Go through a gate, ride an overgrown path & climb that rock!

I hiked in from the direction of Smallacombe Rocks from the Lichen Grove gradually rising to Black Hill. This is a very unassuming outcrop but nonetheless provides fantastic views in all directions, especially in the direction of the Lichen Grove valley and onward to Hound Tor and the Greator Rocks. To be noted though are a couple of sizeable Cairns that are worth a visit if in the area.

Living up to the national park’s bleak reputation, there are a couple of Black Hills on Dartmoor. This particular one, however, bucks the trend slightly. Set amidst a picturesque grass and woodland landscape, the hill affords breathtaking panoramic views over the town of Bovey Tracey, Haytor and beyond.
