Did on a cyclo-cross bike, felt like I almost died.

Great place for anyone who enjoys mountain biking. Novices are best sticking to the bridleways, as the trails are great but get very muddy with even the tiniest bit of rain. There is so much to take in, you can ride out to the trig point on Blackdown and then enjoy a whizz down Burrington Combe. It's always popular with walkers, dog walkers, other cyclists and horse riders, so keep an eye out, respect each other and say hello. There is sometimes a pheasant shoot, but this is always well-signposted and there are lots of friendly stewards to make sure you are safe.

Awesome MTB/TRAIL runs. Dicey in the wet and snow though. Great fun though.

Very tough going up on a gravel bike

Gnarly to say the least. Only really suitable for a good MTB. I did it on a gravel bike with 40mm tyres and it was a bit emotional in places... good fun though in a perverted sort of way.

Rowberrow Warren is a beautiful woodland on the edge of Black Down. There are plenty of footpaths through the woodland, which is home to many bird, insect, mammal and fungi species. It is a great place to include on a wider loop of Dolebury Warren and Beacon Batch.

Rowberrow Warren is a leased wood by Forestry England on the western side of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a very popular spot with all users but particularly horse riders and mountain bikers. Please take care as there are lots of bridleways and paths and horses can easily be spooked by fast bikes. Ride Mendips look after the official Mountain Bike Trails. Making new trails is illegal. Find more information about the trails here https://www.ridemendips.org/

This bridlepath is doable on a gravel bike or a MTB. On the 'great escape route' out to the Mendips!

Top of the Christmas Trees trail

Brilliant narrow single track that links the Charterhouse area to Rowberrow Common and the trig point at Beacons Batch. It gets slippy in the winter and transition months, and with gorse and brambles you'll want to be wearing some gloves for this one.

Soggy and rubble/rock strewn! Some might say gnarly but I’d say best avoided on a gravel bike in either direction!

Lovely views at the top through the fields. Turns into steep rocky single track. Bottom was very wet making it difficult / impossible to ride. Probably better for later in the summer.

I can't imagine this ever dries out. Loose, rocky and muddy in places. Don't unclip if you can, it's a nightmare trying to get your weight back if you do.

Although there are some parallel built mountain biking trails through Bourton Combe, this bridleway is a brilliant linking trail from the village of Flax Bourton heading south. You're in the woodland the whole time, climbing if you're heading in this direction with a really tricky rock slab section to tackle on the way up. Take care, very slippery when wet!

Great singletrack descent off this hillside, pretty rocky and muddy as it channels a small stream down it at times! Take care as it can get a bit rutted with some angular rubble thrown in there too...
