Parking is £7 per car for a full day. No other options for shorter periods. Cafe, toilets, bike hire, laser tag and water sport activities on site. Plenty of space to park on weekends. Great views of the reservoir and access to walking trails.

Water from this pond once pond once powered one of the largest iron works in the Weald employing over 200 men. In 1614 its owner, John Brown, was granted the monopoly of making iron and brass guns for the navy.

The site of a medieval earthworks

Although it doesn't look like much, Castle woods is a late 11th or mid 12th century earthwork motte and bailey fortress, founded by Ansgot of Burwell or Ralph de la Haye. The circular flat-topped motte, stands in the north-eastern part of a roughly circular bailey enclosure. The bailey which is divided in two wards by a broad east to west ditch, is encased by a steep sided partly wet ditch, with a counterscarp bank. On the photo, the semicircular protrusion on the bottom left corner of the wood contains the mound where the castle once stood

Water bus/taxi takes bikes too. We rode 5.75 miles then called and they picked us up in 5 mins, amazing service and £3 each person. Service runs 9am -5pm. It's around 12 miles all the way round with signs saying to allow 6 hours to walk whole route.

With over 4 square miles (10.5 km2) of wild conifers and deciduous trees, Bedgebury Forest is a fantastic place to get out into the countryside. Take a little detour over to the National Pinetum if you have the time. It's one of the world's leading centres for conifer conservation and the start for many other walking and mountain biking trails through this beautiful forest.

Reasonable parking charge of £3 per car, bike hire, cafe, children’s play area and lovely walks as well as a water bus make this a must visit place!
