The surface has weathered-in and looks far more in keeping with the natural woodland. The concrete now has the appearance of hardpacked dry mud

Buzzard Wood MTB trail is an authorised trail with signs in place. On a mid March 2024 day the weather was dry but the surface was wet and muddy. More fun would be had in better weather when faster speed is possible

Great single track through the woods.

Start point for the new, all-weather (concrete) downhill run, "Drift Woods" berms & bumps. Sections of the old natural "Red" & "Blue" can still be found in the wood if you prefer.

Fairly steep gravel climb up to the start of both downhill runs, Buzzard Banger/Fort Elbow to the left and Diggers Downhill to the right (slightly higher up). There is a new, smoother gravel alternative route up, used by walkers, alongside.

If a beginner I would advise walking up the climb as it's a killer on the legs

decent hour + round trip from Thorpe Hesley, Wentworth and Elsecar. Great downhill track (with jumps) from Wentworth down to Elsecar. Be careful when wet!

Been told by ranger this will be closed soon coz they are going to tarmac it. But there is a new Uphill trail to the left hand side at the exit from Buzzard wood

this is a expert level down hill run,if you wish to ride this it is a rollable course, it has a few jumps, berms, rock garden features and a ladder drop this then leads back onto buzzard wood to the end

long uphill climb to get you going before your get to the down hill runs at the top (worth the climb) it is loose gravel/stones all the way up so take precaution on your way up

great down hill run, rollable track all the way down with berms and rollers, the track is for all all skill levels, if you go a 1/4 way round the track it will lead you to fort elbow which is a black run which is an expert level track.
