Breathtaking and impressive views of the surrounding mountains and fjords. Simply magnificent!

Gaustatoppen is several hundred meters higher than the surrounding mountains, and during the last ice age the peak rose above the ice sheet like a nunatak. Frost heaving over thousands of years has caused the mountain's surface to crack into blocks that now lie loose, forming a "block sea". But that's just on the outside. Just below the surface is solid rock, almost the hardest rock there is. That's why the peak is so high.

A popular and straightforward route that features a hefty amount of elevation gain. However, two rewards await you at the summit. First, there are the magnificent views of the mountains of the mountains of Telemark, Buskerud, and the Oslomarka. Second, there's the thrilling run back down.

In summer for running and in winter with the spectacular track. Both are great fun

The overburden mounds belong to an old silver mining area near Kongsberg in which many miners from Saxony and the Harz Mountains also worked. A ride on the old Grubenbergbahn including a guided tour is possible.

A small waterfall worth seeing, but not of great interest for Norway.
