The Bokrijk Arboretum consists of a landscape section, a marsh garden and a forest arboretum. Here is entrance 2 of the Bokrijk arboretum, an 18-hectare garden created in 1960. There are multiple entrances and a 2 km signposted walking route. This first entrance is at the end of a beautiful avenue from the castle. More information at https://bokrijk.be/nl/arboretum

You must walk through this arboretum. It is beautiful. Walking is healthy and you will learn a lot about trees, plants and flowers.

Here, at the gallows, you are at the highest point in Helshoven. The artwork 'Helsh(ea)ven' by Frits Jeuris, known to most as the 'floating chapel', invites you to enjoy that landscape and the work itself. It is made from cherry tree wood. At the end of 2016, the 50-year-old high-stemmed trees in Helshoven had to be cut down due to a viral disease, Little Cherry, which causes tasteless cherries. The gallows represents death. Dead trees. And the dead person. And then there are the trees that are given a second life in the artwork, the floating chapel. An end, a beginning, a view, between heaven and Helshoven, inviting reflection, looking and of course what the work is best known for: that strange image of a chapel that seems to float.

In the Maten you will find a piece of authentic wine landscape with beautiful ponds, connected by heads and tails. It is the area par excellence for bird lovers, as the Wijers are a breeding area for numerous water and songbirds. The Augustijnenvijver is a stopping place for countless birds during bird migration. The routes connect Genk with Diepenbeek and guide you past the ponds of the Maten to the Diepenbekerbos.

The Munsterbos is located on the border of the poor Kempen and the fertile Haspengouw. Northeast of the village center of Munsterbilzen extends 450 hectares of forests, ponds, swamps and grasslands.
