A truly beautiful hiking trail, part of the GR Regional Route Trails. With rocky sections and through a beautiful forest. 🌳

Grove owned by Paul Kellens, author of historical adventure stories for youth and librarian in Herzele ("De Wattenfabriek). He initially makes it freely available to mountain bikers, but as a walker it is also nice to leave the Old Tram Track here and follow the path through the forest, of course following the owner's request to treat nature with respect and to contribute to the safety of MTB riders. Fact: "Wijmenier" is the name of an old craft: the harvesting of young willow branches (wijmen) by basket weavers.

Very nice crossing path

Leo Piron, the man after whom the path is named, was a painter. He was married to a daughter of Valerius De Saedeleer. Like his father-in-law, he immortalized the landscapes of the Flemish Ardennes in his paintings. The Leo Piron Trail connects Nukerke with Zulzeke and runs along a so-called "hollow road." This was created by a natural erosion process: centuries of use of the same path, on foot or by horse and cart, loosened soil is loosened and washed away by rainwater.
