Wangen an der Aare is a municipality and capital of the administrative district of Oberaargau in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The little town with the historic town center is located in a rural setting directly on the large Mittelland river Aare between the towns of Olten and Solothurn, but belongs to the Bernese Oberaargau. An old covered wooden bridge crosses the river. Wangen an der Aare was also the main town of the former district of the same name. In the municipal area, the small river Ösch flows into the Aare as a mill stream. Neighboring communities are Attiswil, Wiedlisbach, Walliswil near Wangen and Wangenried. In the west, the municipality borders on the canton of Solothurn.

Romantic alleys, old cobblestones, a magnificent cathedral, excellent restaurants, and a cool shopping atmosphere that's second to none. Beautiful old town, full of good restaurants, a must stop

The idyllic Verena Gorge is located just outside the city of Solothurn. It can be reached on foot from Solothurn in about 20 minutes, but you can also take the bus to the entrance of the gorge (line 4, stop St. Niklaus). The well-developed, easy-to-walk path then leads through the wild and romantic gorge to a hermitage and two chapels. Three restaurants in the vicinity invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The hike, which is actually more of a stroll, is two kilometers long, and the elevation gain is moderate at 40 meters.
