In front of the majestic Visconti Castle of Pavia, in the heart of Bersaglieri Park, stands a monument that has always caught my attention. Hidden in the dense vegetation, a rocky outcrop symbolizing the island of Caprera bears a bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi. At the foot of the rock, the scene comes alive with profound symbolism. A female figure, Victory, violently breaks the chains of slavery, while an imposing marble lion represents the courage and strength of the people.

The trail runs in a very elevated position, on the edge of a plain that surrounds the outer part of a large bend of the Ticino River. The plain ends abruptly in a steep overhanging cliff caused by the erosion of the water at its base. The trail runs through greenery and flowers, in a panoramic position from which you can admire the branch from which it comes, and the one from which the water flows into the bend that flows at your feet. The large gravelly esplanades on the opposite bank inside the bend of the river are also veiled.

Perhaps a safer bridge than arriving in Oltrepo from Pavia. It is the closest coming from Pavia, it has a tutor so cars must respect the 50 average speed to cross it. It is narrow enough to prevent cars from passing anyway when there is another car coming from the opposite side. The asphalt is good and the joints, recently redone, are in excellent condition. And then there is the view of the Po/Ticino confluence.

From here, along a beaten dirt path, you can admire a beautiful panorama of Ticino.
