Perfect for a mid-November visit, as I did today. The lake is frozen and magnificent to see. It's a short drive from San Giuseppe—it took me an hour and a quarter—but there's ice in some spots, and it's quite cold, being on the dark side. But it's worth it.

A charming alpine lake with turquoise waters, nestled in a valley surrounded by hills, with a beautiful view all around. It can be reached from San Giuseppe (1h30min from signs) and from other itineraries in Valmalenco. The path from San Giuseppe has some steep and wet sections, especially during the thaw: comfortable footwear suitable for the terrain is recommended.

The Torrente Mello is the main watercourse that crosses the Val di Mello, one of the most suggestive valleys of Valtellina. This torrent originates from Monte Disgrazia and flows along the entire valley, fed by numerous streams and natural springs from the surrounding mountains. The Torrente Mello is characterized by crystalline waters that flow between the imposing granite rocks and the lush vegetation, creating natural scenery of rare beauty. Along its course, the torrent feeds several lakes, such as the Laghetto del Qualido, and also feeds numerous waterfalls and pools, which make the valley even more fascinating and appreciated by hikers. The path of the Torrente Mello is clearly visible along the paths that start from the village of San Martino, which is the main starting point for exploring the valley. The path that follows the course of the torrent allows you to enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding nature and access places of great naturalistic interest, making it an ideal destination for lovers of trekking and photography.

The Bidet della Contessa is a charming pool of crystalline water located in the Val di Mello, a side valley of the Val Masino, in the province of Sondrio. This body of water, with emerald green tones, is framed by imposing granite boulders and lush alpine vegetation, creating an environment of rare beauty. The curious name, "Bidet della Contessa", is linked to local legends that tell of a noble lady who loved to cool off in these waters during the hot summer days. To reach the Bidet della Contessa, start from the village of San Martino, following a flat and well-marked path that crosses woods and meadows, along the Mello stream. After about 30 minutes of walking, you arrive at this enchanting pool, ideal for a regenerating break immersed in nature. The Val di Mello, known as the "little Italian Yosemite", is a nature reserve that offers numerous hiking trails suitable for all levels, with breathtaking views of waterfalls, streams and unique rock formations. The Bidet della Contessa represents one of the most fascinating stops in this valley, attracting hikers, families and photography enthusiasts for its fairy-tale atmosphere and the purity of its waters.

The route from San Giuseppe takes about 1 hour, the path is not difficult but rather steep and wet given its exposure.

A lateral valley of Val Masino and part of the municipality of the same name, Val di Mello has a characteristic watercourse that here, near the locality of San Martino, is truly beautiful to see. From time to time it widens its bed, forming small lake basins.
