Much of the Apennine ridge overlooking the Adriatic has conformations of this type, especially in the Abruzzo-Marche area. The clayey soil, devoid of vegetation, is eroded by the water and this incredible landscape is formed.

The Monte dell'Ascensione is a relief of the Marche sub-Apennine at an altitude of 1100 meters. It is surrounded by spectacular gullies, which form part of the protected area of the Parco dei Calanchi e Monte Ascensione, and its name derives from a church there to be found on the summit founded in the 14th century by Meco del Sacco, a hermit and preacher.

The famous Sibillini Ring is considered one of the most fascinating paths in Italy, offering pristine landscapes, historic villages, steep forests and expanses of pastures. The hiking route, which measures 124 km and is divided into 9 stages, is particularly recommended in the months between May and October.
