What is crazy is that the ground is still warm to hot 23 years after the eruption in 2001.

The journey to Etna leads through a landscape marked by volcanic activity. Plumes of smoke rising from various parts of the main crater and the secondary craters testify to the tireless dynamism beneath the earth's surface. This constantly changing environment, where snow covers the peaks as early as autumn, forms a breathtaking backdrop characterized by the wild and dangerous beauty of the volcano. The experience of standing in the gray vastness of the volcanic landscape makes one feel one's own smallness in the face of the mighty forces of nature. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of this, the beauty of this place is breathtaking. The view from the peaks of Etna offers an incomparable panorama that stretches from the island of Sicily to the vast horizon of the Mediterranean. To explore this extraordinary hiking highlight, it is important to observe the local regulations of the Parco dell'Etna and to climb with an experienced mountain guide due to the potential dangers. Being accompanied by an expert not only ensures safety during the hike, but also offers the opportunity to learn more about the volcanic activity, geological features and history of Etna. In addition to the expert guide, you should also make sure you have appropriate equipment, especially enough water and protection from the changeable weather conditions that can change quickly at high altitudes.

The Crateri Silvestri Inferiori, formed from the eruption of Mount Etna in 1892, are a true natural spectacle and a must for any hiker who wants to explore Sicily's unique volcanic landscape. With an overwhelming recommendation rate from hikers, these craters offer an easily accessible yet impressive natural experience right at the foot of the mighty Mount Etna. The large parking lot in the immediate vicinity makes access to these historic craters extremely easy. After just a few meters, a view opens up that presents the interplay between the rough volcanic earth and the first traces of vegetation in a fascinating play of colors. Although the experience here does not quite reach the raw, steamy intensity of the summit region, the beauty of the Crateri Silvestri Inferiori is undeniable and offers a more accessible option for all visitors. The opportunity to hike directly on the crater floor adds a special touch to the visit. The accessibility of the extinct Silvestri craters makes it possible for anyone to find themselves in the middle of a volcano without much effort. This easy sporting activity is a unique opportunity to experience the power and beauty of nature up close. In addition, the Crateri Silvestri Inferiori are an excellent entry point into the more extensive volcanic landscape of Etna. As "picture-book craters", they offer a foretaste of the majestic and diverse environment that makes this part of Sicily so special. The panoramic view from the crater rim offers a breathtaking view that will stay in your memory in clear weather.

The hike from the base of Etna to the upper craters, including those from 2003, is a challenge that is rewarded with breathtaking views and the unparalleled experience of standing on one of the world's most active volcanoes. Although there is the option to take a bus to the top for €33.00, many hikers recommend climbing on foot to traverse the unique terrain of lava ash. While the climb can be strenuous, especially as there is no shade along the way, the views and proximity to the forces of nature make up for any effort. Many visitors emphasize the imposing presence of Etna, whose size and natural power are hard to describe in words. The steep climb to the Cratere del Laghetto is rewarded with spectacular views of Etna and its active craters, a sight that is an unforgettable experience for many. Hikes can be undertaken on your own as a guide is not mandatory, increasing flexibility for individual exploration. A circular trail takes hikers along the crater rim, from where, in good weather, there is a clear view of Etna and the surrounding landscape. The weather on Etna can change quickly, but as many visitors report, patience is worth it, because the sky often clears up and reveals a breathtaking panorama. The hike to the Cratere del Laghetto and the exploration of Etna are a must for every visitor to Sicily who is looking for adventure and wants to experience nature in its most pristine form. The combination of physical challenge and the reward of spectacular natural spectacles makes this place an unforgettable highlight.

Piccolo Rifugio, nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Parco dell'Etna, offers an incomparable natural experience. This hiking highlight, located at the foot of majestic Etna, Sicily's bubbling volcano, attracts adventure seekers and nature lovers alike. A jeep tour to the Piccolo Rifugio is not only a journey through the fascinating volcanic landscape, but also an impressive demonstration of the power and beauty of nature. Visitors are reminded of how small and humble humans can be in the face of the Earth's forces. The temperature differences between the beach and the summit region make warm clothing essential. The ride with the all-terrain bus from the valley station to the mountain station offers spectacular views and the opportunity to take guided tours along the crater rim, guaranteeing an unforgettable experience. The harsh yet fascinating landscape of Etna, with its warm gases escaping from fissures and steaming underground, bears witness to the ongoing volcanic activity and constant change of the earth's surface. In addition to warm clothing, hikers and visitors should also bring enough water, windbreakers against the cool breeze and sturdy shoes in order to be safe on the diverse surfaces. Piccolo Rifugio, formerly part of a ski lift, is now a starting point for discovery in one of Europe's most impressive natural landscapes. The uniqueness of Etna, with its natural thermal areas reminiscent of a slowly cooling oven, makes every visit an educational experience about the forces that shape our world.

Etna is a majestic sight. This size, vastness and forces of nature can hardly be put into words. Really very impressive. From here you can also get to Monte Silvestri, where warm gases still escape. If you scrape something away from the loose base, it starts steaming right away. In some crevices it is as warm as in a slowly cooling oven. Exciting! And it shows very impressively how long there are still effects of underground events even after an eruption!
