A challenge against oneself

Rest area with several tables, a place to light a fire and right next to the Pian di Gembro car parks. The tables are all in the sun and there is no fountain, so be prepared (although for those who are thirsty there are places on the road or in the flat area on the path a short distance away).

At an altitude between Aprica and Trivigno, it is a very beautiful plain from a naturalistic point of view. Also reachable by car and equipped with a car park, it can be a starting point for bike rides or a good panoramic stopping point equipped with tables and some places that offer refreshments in the summer. Point of passage for many tours involving the Aprica and Mortirolo passes.

The last stretch to reach the cross must be done on foot or carrying the bike on your shoulder, but the view is certainly worth it. Beautiful view even if (obviously) it's very windy at the top. In mid-June there was still some residual snow, so I recommend going there from July onwards.

After passing the Sandro Occhi refuge, Lake Aviolo shows itself in all its splendid beauty, with the majestic peaks of the Baitone group and its glaciers in the background. It is a truly magical and relaxing place. The trails near the lodge are flat and easy to walk, but as you get further away from the lodge, the trail becomes very rough, with rocky terrain. Running is definitely possible, but you have to be careful where you put your feet.
