14~15세기 건물로, 일부는 바위를 깎아 만들었으며 성 조반니 인 몬테로네(San Giovanni in Monterrone)에 헌정된 가장 오래된 지하 예배당과 연결되어 있습니다. 이드리스(Idris)라는 이름은 그리스어로 '물'을 뜻하는 ὕδωρ에서 유래했으며, 콘스탄티노플에서 성모 마리아를 숭배할 때 사용하던 '오디지트리아(Odigitria)'라는 명칭을 연상시킵니다. 내부 프레스코화 중에는 마테라(Matera)의 옛 모습이 배경으로 그려진 '십자가 처형'과, 제단 위에 두 개의 물통이 놓인 왕좌에 앉아 있는 '아기 예수와 성모 마리아'가 있습니다. 이 교회는 빗물을 모으는 저수조가 있던 지역에 세워졌습니다.

2000년대 초반, 조각가이자 예술가인 안토니오 파라디소는 폐쇄된 석회암 채석장을 복구하고 재개발하는 프로젝트를 구상했습니다. 랜드 아트와 현대 조각 작품을 통해 그는 이 공간을 야외 박물관으로 탈바꿈시켰습니다. 거대한 돌과 강철 작품들은 넓은 광장에 자리 잡고 주변의 재료 및 풍경과 대화를 나눕니다. 기하학적인 절단과 크고 작은 깊이의 조각으로 표시된 암벽은 다양한 가공 기술을 사용한 수십 년간의 채굴 활동을 증언합니다. 명확하고 불연속적인 흔적들은 채석공들의 작업과 재료의 변형을 이야기합니다. "제가 그것을 샀을 때, 그것은 모든 종류의 폐기물과 잔해로 가득 찬 쓰레기장이었지만, 저는 그 채석장 자체가 이미 인간의 노력을 나타내는 조각이라는 것을 즉시 보았습니다."

The southern Italian city of Matera is impressive and attractive, but at the same time also mysterious and a bit rough. It looks more like a labyrinth of stone houses, steep staircases and narrow streets. The Sassi di Matera, or Stones of Matera, is full of caves that were once inhabited and were therefore a disgrace to Italy. Times have changed suddenly, and today the Sassi di Matera are the pride not only of the city, but also of the entire Basilicata region, in which Matera is located.

Gravina di Laterza is an impressive karst gorge located in Puglia, among the largest and most spectacular in Europe, with a length of over 12 km and a depth of over 200 meters. It was formed millions of years ago through the erosion of water in the limestone rocks, creating a unique landscape of steep walls and caves. From a naturalistic point of view, it hosts a rich biodiversity: rare species of flora and fauna find refuge here, including birds of prey such as the Egyptian vulture and the golden eagle. It is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers, ideal for geological explorations and birdwatching.

Grotta Croce, located in Gravina di Laterza, is one of the many karst caves in this suggestive canyon in Puglia. Famous for its natural beauty and historical interest, the cave offers spectacular limestone formations. Explored by speleology enthusiasts and hikers, it is part of the Terra delle Gravine Natural Park, an area rich in biodiversity and characterized by deep ravines and hidden caves. Grotta Croce also has archaeological value, with finds that testify to human presence in ancient times.
