A hermit living here carved a statue of Mary in 1030 and hid it in a hollow tree trunk due to the turmoil of war. In 1300 a blind beggar found a spring in the forest with the help of a voice from heaven and promised that he would be able to see again if he washed his eyes with the water from the spring. He did this, regained his sight and immediately saw a statue of Mary lying by the spring. He erected a wooden pillar on which he placed the statue, whereupon pilgrimages to the statue of Mary and the miraculous spring soon began.
