The detour to the lake is worthwhile; it's simply pure nature. You can even take a break right by the water.

At the Groß-Ziethen Geopark in the heart of the Uckermark, visitors can take a journey into the past, especially to the last ice age. In the information and visitor center, which is housed in the old mill, you can learn everything about the geological formation of this impressive landscape on three floors. Models, interactive stations and clear explanations ensure that the topic is presented in an exciting and understandable way for young and old. In front of the center, a life-size mammoth model welcomes visitors - a great photo opportunity! In the center itself there are many interesting insights into the formation of the region. The nearby Grumsin beech forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is perfect for subsequent hikes. The opening times are from April to October, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are special offers for families, and a small snack bar and parking spaces are also available. If you are looking for an ideal destination for the whole family that combines both nature and history, you will definitely find it here.

The "Gate to the Ice Age" in Groß-Ziethen offers an interesting insight into the region's Ice Age history. In the Geopark Center, housed in the historic steam mill, an exhibition on three floors takes visitors through the events of the Ice Age. Models, interactive technology and clear explanations convey the formation of the landscape and the surrounding nature. After visiting the exhibition, you enter the core area of the Geopark through a striking stone archway. Past the life-sized mammoth named Georg, the path leads into the Grumsin beech forest, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From here, hikes can be undertaken to the Sperlingsherberge and Ihlowberge adventure sites. The well-signposted paths are provided with information boards and installations that provide additional information. The exhibition is particularly suitable for families with children, as it allows you to experience the Ice Age up close. The educational trail complements the offer with additional boards and structures. Free parking is available at the Geocenter, making it easier to get there. Guided tours of the forest are offered on weekends, providing additional insights. Note: From November 1 to March 31, the visitor and information center is only open to groups by appointment.

Hidden in a small forest is a small lake with an equally small stretch of beach. It cannot be seen from the main path, but is easily accessible via a small side path that leads into the forest. There is only one entrance, but it offers plenty of space for a rest. With a bit of luck and good weather, the lake appears in mysterious mist early in the morning. The lake is a beautiful biotope that owes its existence to a huge body of dead ice. Traces of beavers can be found in the area, which even venture close to the really thick trees here. The mixture of water, forest and animal inhabitants gives this place a special atmosphere off the beaten track.
