If you're already in the area, you should definitely come here. An idyllic spot not far from civilization. Wagenmoosweiher is an artificially created lake in the Meggerwald forest, within the municipality of Udligenswil in the canton of Lucerne. It's located in a forest clearing at an altitude of 597 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by reeds. On the western shore of Wagenmoosweiher, you'll find a lovely picnic area with a barbecue and a water fountain.

If you haven't had enough of hiking, you can do some exercise in between.

The pond lies in the heart of the Lower Forest nature reserve, surrounded by various fens. A fen in a nature reserve is a damp, often boggy area, usually found in river valleys, near lakes, or in depressions. It is a special habitat characterized by high biodiversity and sensitive ecological conditions. The vegetation often consists of reeds, sedges, rushes, rushes, and other wet meadow plants. It provides a habitat for many endangered animal and plant species.

On the hiking trail to Ruodisegg, simply follow the information boards on various topics or walk along the tree-lined avenue to the Hinterboden junction. At Färbersegg, leave the path to Ruodisegg, cross the field path, and then hike through the fascinating nature reserve. Now follow the signs until just before the Hinterboden mountain inn and begin the short climb through the forest forest toward Holderen. At Alp Holderen, the descent across the alpine meadows begins, or you can take the field road back to Seebodenalp.

Mount Rigi was surrounded by the Reuss Glacier, which extended far into the Swiss Plateau and left clear traces. At that time, a thick layer of ice lay in the valleys surrounding Mount Rigi. Large quantities of debris and boulders (erratics from the Gotthard Massif) were carried from the upper Uri Reuss Valley into our region. Information panels are located at various locations. They provide information about the history of the Seebodenalp glacial landscape and about changes that have occurred over the centuries due to human or climatic influences. Other topics include current forms of management on Seebodenalp, nature conservation and biodiversity, and landscape design.

There are some beautiful views of the lake, it’s true, and stopping to swim later on the ride is great. But starting in this section leaving Lucerne, there is a LOT of construction. About every .25 km at least, which leads to frequent detours. And that’s just the beginning with this ride, in fact a significant part takes you through suburban neighborhoods, industrial zones, (virtual) highways, and other areas that are simply not very pleasant to ride in. Add to that, the bike path itself is CONSTANTLY CHANGING. First it’s bike + walk, now bike on the street, now back on the path but it’s bi direction, now the bi directional is on the other side. Seriously, it’s maddening. I would like to know what masochists rated this ride so well (I think I know, they passed us wearing all black spandex and wrap around shades). But for the people who just want a nice visit to the lake, do yourself a favor and skip this convoluted ride amongst whizzing cars and trucks on narrow roads.
